I said something to this effect on MATY today, but why does there seem to be this almost obsession in the Sims community as to who is going to play Sims3 or keep playing Sims2? It's like on every single Sims forum I visit and here on LJ too. Is it because we are a community and everyone fears the loss of sim friends if they start playing Sims3 or stick with Sims2? I suppose that is a valid concern, but honestly what everyone else is doing should have no effect on what game you personally want to play.
As for me I am going to move on to the Sims3 (not that it probably effects anyone on LJ since I am mostly a lurker and I don't know if anyone would count me as a sim friend since I am pretty quiet). For me personally, the Sims3 is a much better fit to the way I play the game. I tend to play only one household at a time and I WANT the rest of the town to live on their own. I'm not much of a neighborhood builder either, so the fact that I can't build my own doesn't bother me. At this point I have gotten pretty bored with the Sims2 since I have done just about everything that can be done in the game...sometimes multiple times over. I'm excited about the new things that can be done in the Sims3. Of course I can certainly see why someone would want to stick with the Sims2 especially if they are the type of player that builds whole neighborhoods full of families that they then want to control.
What I don't get is the sometimes almost attacks on people that say they want to play the Sims3...calling them sheep, EA corporate shills, retarded and such (not really here on LJ, mostly on MATY...but it has leaked onto some other communities too). Come on, these are just games. I dare say that each one of us can make our own decision as to which game best serves our playing style and needs. There is no need to get hostile to people that make a different choice than you would.
It reminds me of the grief that people sometimes get when they admit that they actually like Eaxis things over CC including vanilla gameplay over hacks. It probably stems from the same place. I don't know if people feel threatened by others that play and enjoy different things than they do or what, but I just want to say that just because some people like Eaxis things and gameplay it doesn't make your enjoyment of custom content and mods in anyway suspect (and vice versa). The same goes for the Sims3 versus the Sims2. ^^
